History
Established in 1955.
The first services of Hope Lutheran Church were held in a store front on West 41st Avenue in San Mateo with Rev. L. Henry Nielsen officiating. In August 1955 a groundbreaking service and ceremony was held for the first unit of the church to be built at 600 West 42nd Avenue in San Mateo. During the past 60 years, Hope Lutheran has seen changes in personnel as well as in the community, sponsored a church in Half Moon Bay, continues to be active in social concerns in the local community, i.e., Samaritan House, CORA, Home & Hope, etc. and in other areas of the country and world.
