Profile
We strive to have a relaxed and friendly, family atmosphere. Together our goal is to become a church as described in the Bible: heart felt worship, revelant teaching, honest friendships, supportive groups. No church can live up to everything it wants to be. It’s a delicate balance between acceptance, patience and grace with weaknesses and struggles and holding up the standards that bind all Christianity together. We believe that people want a place where there’s mercy, but a place of solid foundation. We do this by: * Learning about Christianity together with our hearts and minds open. * Singing encouraging music because we’re thankful to God. * Studying His book, helping each other, and giving. * Reaching out through drug rehab, orphanages, and rescue missions. * Encouraging each other in groups for youth, singles and couples.
History
Established in 1913.
Glad Tidings Church was founded at the turn of the century, during some of the most turbulent times for our nation and the formative years of contemporary Protestantism. Founders, Robert and Mary Craig, envisioned transforming San Francisco into a center of spiritual renewal, and this continues to be our church’s goal today. In 1919, the church founded a Bible institute in order to fulfill the church’s vision of reaching 100,000 people with the message of God’s love. In 1950, this Bible school moved to the Santa Cruz mountains where it became Bethany University. Meanwhile, the church’s commitment to reaching the lost in San Francisco has never wavered. Throughout GT’s history, thousands of men and women have come to know God’s love better, and in turn, striven to make His love known to the City of San Francisco. This continues to be our church’s mission: Love God. Love each other. Love the city. Change the world.
