History
Established in 1888.
First established as the Scandinavian Evangelical Church of Riverside in 1888 with a total of 64 charter members and original services in Swedish, Eden Lutheran Church became the very first Lutheran church in Riverside. The original church was built on the corner of Orange and Eleventh Streets in downtown Riverside in 1891. By 1945 the congregation had outgrown the original church and a new 5 1/2 acre parcel was purchased on Brockton Avenue. The Romanesque design of the church and the supervision of its construction was done by Leonard Wallerstedt who was a member of the church. Groundbreaking for the new church took place in July of 1952. After 14 months and over 10,000 hours of volunteer work by the congregants of the church, the Sanctuary was completed in September of 1953.
