Profile
Worship service times are Saturday at 6:00 p.m., and Sunday at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. All weekend services are all identical. Thursday evening service for young adults. All of our services have contemporary music and a message that is Bible-based and relevant to daily life. The attire is casual, but feel free to dress up. Every nationality is welcome. Spanish translation of the sermon is available at all services, and Deaf Interpretation is available at the 11:00 a.m. service. The Children’s Ministry offers children’s programs for kids birth through fifth grade at all five services. The Student Ministries offers a middle school and high school program Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. There is also a midweek service for middle and high school students on Wednesdays. We are an independent, nondenominational church. We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and Jesus was born of a virgin, sinless, died for sins, was raised on the third day and will one day return.
History
Established in 1912.
In 1912, 100 dedicated believers met in an old railroad car for church services. This collection of people became First Baptist Church of Van Nuys, and in 1976, it became Shepherd of the Hills Church in Porter Ranch, which is now just Shepherd Church. In 1952, Hillcrest Christian Church opened with 105 people, and in 1964, Hillcrest purchased land and moved to Granada Hills, California, where Dudley Rutherford became the senior pastor in 1987. In 1995, Shepherd and Hillcrest merged with a combined membership of 1,600 calling itself Shepherd of the Hills Church, where Pastor Rutherford eventually became the senior pastor. In 2000 the congregation doubled, and between 2005 and 2008, Shepherd produced four satellite locations, a Spanish-speaking church and three self-sufficient churches within Los Angeles County. With all the locations, there are 10,000 attendees in a single weekend, and the Porter Ranch location is currently raising funds for a new 3,500-seat sanctuary.
