Profile
Bethany Church is a diverse family of evangelical believers who care deeply for each other and serve the communities around them. Seeking to be an authentic reflection of Christ’s body, our community is made up of people who are imperfect, but who worship a perfect God and strive to please him. We meet corporately and in small groups so that we can support each other though life’s challenges. Bethany Church is a member of the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA).
History
Established in 1922.
A round cobblestone church building was designed and built by the near-blind Louis Corneulle in 1922, and called the Bethany Temple. Due to the earthquake safety standards, the building was replaced in the 1950s with the current Bethany Church campus which today includes a beautiful wood-paneled auditorium, a pre-school – 8th grade academy, and a large gym and ministry center. In 1942, the congregation was actively involved in helping protect the property of Sierra Madre’s Japanese residents who were forcibly taken to internment camps. In later years Bethany sent out several dozen missionaries, many of whom are now leaders of Christian missions on several continents. The congregation today has become ethnically more diverse, and the members are known for their genuine love and sincere faith.
