History
Established in 1981.
Copperfield’s Books began as a vision for a truly full-service community-based bookstore by owners Paul Jaffe and Barney Brown. They purchased Sebastopol’s Myst Bookstore in June of 1981 and changed the name to Copperfield’s Books. From that 725 square foot storefront, Copperfield’s began to attract booklovers from all over Sonoma County. By 1983, the Sebastopol store had moved to its present location in the old Analy Five & Dime building and also opened a second store in Montgomery Village, Santa Rosa. Copperfield’s also now has locations in Petaluma, Napa, Calistoga and Healdsburg. We have never forgotten our roots as a local independent bookseller, committed to supporting the local communities we serve. From author events to book clubs & book fairs, we has been committed to literature, education, and community. Copperfield’s has a reputation throughout Northern California for creating vibrant gathering places which offer cozy surroundings for booklovers.
